The Opera Mini browser brings Internet to my SonyEricsson W880i phone!
I the series "finally a mobile device that works seamlessly with Internet browsing" I got the tip to test the new Opera Mini browser for cell phones. Since my phone is not even close to be a useful Internet gadget I was a bit sceptic at first. But after downloading the very small install file (like 150kb) I was stunned with how good the browser was, even on my small screen!
Naturally my first test was our blogs at http://labs.episerver.com running EPiServer CMS 5. Naturally it looked good (without any modifications :-)
As you can see, the mouse snaps to content areas. It also allows sideway and up/down motion.
.. and the zoom is just a click away!
With the Opera Mini, the EPiServer Labs blogs are actually quite OK to read. There is also a landscape mode If you need a wider screen.
Per Rask, a colleague who brought the Opera Mini to my attention, also discovered that it supports forms authentication :-)
Right now I have been able to logon to the labs site! However, testing the Edit mode is kind of tricky since our site is secured... The old /edit is something else now, best found under the rightclick menu. And, yes, I remember it was me who demanded the removal of \edit for security reasons..
Anyone who knows where to find the right click on a phone :-)
Download the browser from http://www.operamini.com/ Best of all: It is free!
I congratulate our Norwegian friends at Opera Software ASA . Good work!!!
