Pimp my CMS

by: Per Bjurström

No kidding, there is actually a tag on Flickr called pimpmycms, but it's largly a disappointment or what you think about this "freaked out" movable type.

And how did I end up there you may ask and probably should ask, well I changed the color scheme in Word 2007 to this fairly nice black user interface which reminded me of the fact that we have theming for edit/admin in EPiServer CMS 5 but I haven't seen a single one besides the built in theme. I do think that theming is something users want and I know there are some great designers out there that could make it happen, so what are you waiting for ?

Maybe we should offer a Apple TV for everyone that sends us a serious attempt on making a nice looking theme for edit/admin?  Micke?

This is what the black color scheme in Word 2007 looks like by the way which kind of reminds of the design used in both the demo templates and edit/admin:

Is it a EPiServer CMS theme or Word theme?

  1. Have poked around a bit with themes, but I must say that it's not that easy to change stuff if you're not just looking at changing the icons and some colors. Wrote a quick post about it: http://thisisnothing.wordpress.com/2007/12/14/episerver-cms-intergen-style/
  2. I hear you, maybe creating a visually appealing theme is too much work to do on your sparetime. Very good feedback.
  3. Well, if you look at all those pictures on flickr, it obviously isn't... :) But there's so much other cool stuff to do, and working with the asp.net theme engine isn't that rewarding... Keep up the good work.
  4. I've made a small prototype to support theme inheritance to make it easier to "patch" the existing theme, if I get the time to finish it I'll post an article about it..
